Wangfujing Shopping Street and Market in Beijing

In Beijing, all the most interesting things for travelers can be found in the city center. The two most popular shopping districts are located to the west and east of Beijing's Forbidden City. Now we're going to talk about Wangfujing, a shopping street often referred to as “Arbat in Beijing.”

Wangfujing is famous for two things. The first is a shopping street with a wide selection of shops, boutiques and just retail stores. This place is more “civilized” compared to the shopping streets of southern Chinese cities, like Nanjing Street in Shanghai. There is no abundance of pestering street vendors selling consumer goods at inflated prices. Pickpocketing is less common here. Beijing justifies its status as the political and cultural capital of China.

Wangfujing Street is a shopping paradise if you want to choose decent quality clothes or shoes rather than the cheapest. Here you can find boutiques of famous brands from all over the world, as well as very high-quality Chinese items. Souvenir shops will delight you with a wide range and exclusive gifts, but don't expect cheap price tags from them.

The second thing that Wangfujing has become famous for all over the world is the night market. If you want to see all the dishes that Chinese people eat in all provinces of the country, then you are on your way here – to the night food market in Wangfujing district. Everything is missing here: from simple tortillas to fried scorpions, from small pies with fillings that a European cannot identify, to large nut cakes.

By the way, insects are more of an attraction than really food. The Chinese themselves do not eat insects, and we strongly advise you not to try them, even in a rare case for a Russian tourist, if you have provided expensive medical insurance in advance.

The only major drawback of the Wangfujing food market is the crowding. The streets here are no more than two meters wide, and it is very difficult to move along them in a crowd of Chinese. There are also no tables where you can eat what you just bought in a relaxed atmosphere, and you only have to eat on the go. This annoys Europeans and Russians, but it's more than normal for the Chinese.

Keep in mind that the market opens in the evening – around 18:00. There wasn't much to do here before. Wangfujing Street and Market are located near the main attractions of Beijing - Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. A very good strategy is to see the sights during the day and go shopping in the evening, because everything is nearby.

Getting here is easy. Take the Beijing Subway train to Wangfujing Station. Immediately after exiting, you will see a large pedestrian street perpendicular to the central avenue. There's no mistaking it.

Taste the dishes and try on clothes with pleasure, that's what Wangfujing Street exists for. Up-X yorumları ve yorumlara göz atın Up-X yorumları hakkında tüm bilgileri inceleyin.
